Frequently Asked Questions
Curious about what menuha means?
Menuha (pronounced men-oo-khaw’) is a Hebrew word that is used in Psalm 23.
“He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.” Psalm 23:2
Menuha is the word used for still, which can also be translated as “waters of rest.” When looking at the Hebrew origins, it can be defined as “resting place” and “stillness.” One of my goals as a therapist is to provide a safe space that allows for rest and stillness. In the Psalm, David tells us how God shepherds, comforts, and restores souls. Knowing this is the heartbeat behind my work as a therapist; That in the deep soul work of therapy, there is always grounding and hope in the one who gives rest, restores, and comforts us body, soul, and spirit.
What will my first therapy session be like?
Your first session is all about getting to know each other. We'll talk about what brings you to therapy, what you hope to gain from it, and go over important logistics like confidentiality, scheduling, and what our work together might look like.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before you arrive—just come as you are. I’ll ask some guiding questions to help us explore your story, your relationships, and what’s been weighing on your heart and mind. My goal is to create a space that feels safe, grounding, and collaborative from the very beginning.
Lucky for you, I also wrote a blog post on the topic!
Do you take insurance?
Menuha Therapy is a private pay practice and does not bill insurance directly. However, I can provide a monthly superbill upon request, which you may be able to submit to your insurance provider for out-of-network reimbursement. I encourage you to contact your insurance company directly to learn more about your out-of-network mental health benefits.
Many clients choose private pay because it allows for greater privacy, flexibility, and collaboration in your care—without the limitations that insurance often places on the therapy process.
What does faith integration look like in therapy?
Faith integration means your spiritual life is honored as part of your healing, not ignored. It doesn’t mean prescribing answers such as “pray more.” For some, that might include prayer, referring to scripture, or connecting Christian beliefs to life challenges. For others, it may involve unpacking church hurt, religious trauma, or exploring what faith means to you.
That said, faith integration is never forced. You set the pace. Whether you want therapy that’s deeply rooted in your walk with God, or you’re simply exploring spiritual questions, I’ll meet you where you are with curiosity, respect, and care. You don’t need to have it all figured out.
I still have questions…
Starting therapy can bring up a lot of questions. If you’re unsure about anything or just want to get a feel for how I work, I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation. It’s a no-pressure way to connect, ask your questions, and see if we’re a good fit.
Feel free to contact me here or email me directly at lauren@menuhatherapy.com. I’d be happy to help you find the clarity you need before taking the next step.
